Sisoft Sandra benchmarks get into deep detail, while we love running them here at ActiveWin, it does tend to cause a lot of crashes whenever we seem to run reviews based around it! Thankfully though we have got the main results we need, we have run both Processor Arithmetic and Memory Bandwidth tests to get the best from the benchmarking

Processor Arithmetic - AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ 2.6 Ghz

Test
Result
ALU Mips
22215
FPU MFlops

8260

SSE2 MFlops

10680

Processor Arithmetic - AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ - Socket 939

Test
Result
ALU Mips
16923
FPU MFlops

6320

SSE2 MFlops

8328

As you can see in the tests above, the stock 5000+ X2 processor rips through these tests and makes a good jump over the stock mid-range 3800+ X2 processor.

Memory Bandwidth - AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ 2.6 Ghz with 1 GB DDR2-800 Memory

Test
Result
RAM Integrity (MB/s)
7115
RAM Float (MB/s)

7145

Memory Bandwidth - AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ with 1 GB DDR-400 Memory

Test
Result
RAM Integrity (MB/s)
5248
RAM Float (MB/s)

5182

The memory bandwidth tests really go a long to way to show how much better the AM2 does over the older socket 939 based board, AMD have done a very good job making a low latency DDR2 controller. Although this test looks very good for the AM2, its one of the few tests we have done based on both Socket 939 and the new AM2 based boards in which the AM2 comes out on top.
