How It Grades

Installation: 90%
Performance: 95%
Price/Value: 55%
Overall: 80%

Yet again, the brand new 2.8 GHz Intel’s Pentium 4 flagship processor breaks the latest speed and performance record established by the 2.53 GHz model. This new Pentium 4 2.8 GHz is simply a beast of power that widely outperforms competing solution. Just like a Ferrari this CPU sports a huge price tag that’ll thankfully drop in the future, but it’s the price of performance, quality, reliability and compatibility. Intel’s main competitor, AMD, will definitely have a hard time to follow the Santa Clara’s frenetic frequency increase.

Intel D845EBT motherboard is simply fantastic. This motherboard doesn’t only support the most recent technologies (P4 with 533 MHz FSB, USB 2.0, UDMA 100, etc.) but it comes with convenient built-in features. For instance, the native FireWire support is today a must have and will save both a PCI slot and the cost of purchasing a FireWire adapter. The RAID controller will be appreciated by advanced users as well as the built-in LAN controller, while the revamped audio circuit will deliver premium audio performance. The only real regret we have with Intel D845EBT is the non support of the DDR333 memory. Hopefully Intel is poised to release a new revision of its i845 chipset very soon to add support of the DDR333.
