Compatibility Updates 

Unresponsive Socket Applications
Microsoft has released a patch to resolve the following issue: In Windows 2000 Service Pack 1 (SP1), calls to the Socket function may not be returned, causing the creation of sockets not to succeed. Therefore, socket programs may become unresponsive and cause 100 percent CPU usage.

Network Load Balancing Hotfix Package
This update combines two Network Load Balancing Hotfix updates, and is discussed in Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) Article Q278670. Download now to prevent an error in the Network Load Balancing system that can result in memory leaks and the loss of client connections. 

LSA Domain Controller Access Violation
Microsoft has released a patch that fixes an issue in Windows 2000 in which a domain controller may restart and may not be able to start again because there is heap damage that forces an access violation in Lsass.exe.

  DBCS Printing Issue With Pagemaker
Microsoft has released a patch to solve the following issue. When you install Adobe PageMager version 6.53 and PostScript printer on Japanese Windows 2000, and you print out a document with Japanese character such as MS Mincho and MS Gothic, DBCS character may be incorrectly printed out. Currently, this problem was confimed on Japanese Windows 2000 only.

Client Session Restart Command for Terminal Services Server
Microsoft has released a patch that fixes an issue where a user attempts to restart a Windows 2000-based Terminal Services server from a client session by clicking Start, clicking Shut Down, and then clicking Restart, the server may not restart. Instead, it may shut down.

Windows 2000 Patch: LSA Memory Loss
Microsoft has released a patch that will prevent memory leaks in the Local Security Authority (LSA) during a Kerberos change-password request or when LSA loads a security package.

SCSIPort Driver Update
This update resolves the "SCSIPort Driver" performance issue in Windows 2000 computers, and is discussed in Microsoft Knowledge Base Article Q276253. Download now to improve the performance of your SCSIPort driver, especially during times of heavy usage.

Windows 2000 ISA Server Update
This update resolves three vulnerabilities in Windows 2000 with Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server, and is discussed in Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) Article Q275286. The vulnerabilities are related to the traffic control provided by the Quality of Service (QoS) Packet Scheduler service, which monitors the filter and flow of Internet Protocol (IP) network packets that travel through a Windows 2000 server. In addition, the update addresses an error in the time-interval parameter for connections made through a Microsoft proxy server, which could result in a large number of open sockets. Download now to ensure that your Windows 2000 ISA server is able to use the QoS Packet Scheduler service to provide the necessary traffic control of IP packets, and to minimize the number of open sockets in your firewall system.

Removable Media Access Update
This update resolves the "Non-Administrative User Cannot Access Removable Media After NTFS Format" issue in Windows 2000. When a user formats a disk in a removable hard drive with the NTFS file system, and the computer has the "allowed to eject removable NTFS media" group policy applied, Windows 2000 does not set the appropriate Access Control Lists (ACLs) to grant non-administrative users access to the disk. As a result, a non-administrative user may be denied access to removable media (such as an Iomega Jaz disk, or other removable hard drives). A non-administrative user who formats the drive will not have authority to change the inappropriate ACLs, and will be denied access to the disk. Download now to ensure that Windows 2000 sets the appropriate ACLs for the NTFS file system.

PC Card Bus Voltage Level Update
This update resolves the "Toshiba PC Card Controller May Power 3.3-Volt R2 PC Card at 5 Volts" issue in Windows 2000. In some Toshiba laptops, the Toshiba PC Card controller (ToPIC) may incorrectly power 3.3-volt R2 PC Cards at 5 volts. This problem occurs because the driver for the Windows 2000 PC Card bus does not handle the voltage levels for these R2 PC Cards correctly. Download now to ensure the bus voltage handles both 3.3-volt and 5.0-volt PC Cards appropriately.

FrontPage 2000 Non-HTML File Save Update
This update resolves the "Confirm Save. A More Recent Version of the <File Name> Has Been Saved" issue in FrontPage®2000 Server Extensions, when non-HTML extensions are used with Windows 2000 Service Pack 1 (SP1). When you save Web pages with non-HTML extensions to a Web project in FrontPage 2000, it only recognizes .html, .htm, .txt, .asp server extensions, and Office documents. Download now to enable FrontPage 2000 to save Web project information in all file extensions.

Windows 2000 High Encryption Pack
The Windows 2000 High Encryption Pack allows you to enhance your system with the highest available encryption level (128-bit).

VIA AGP Chipset Driver Update
This update resolves the "Video Hangs When Running 3-D Graphics Programs" vulnerability in Windows 2000. When you run a program that uses 3-D Accelerated Graphics Port (AGP) on a Windows 2000-based computer that uses the VIA AGP chipset, your computer may stop responding. This vulnerability is caused by incomplete support for the VIA chipset in the Windows 2000 AGP drivers. Download now to add driver support for your VIA AGP chipset.

Terminal Services Advanced Client
The Terminal Services Advanced Client (TSAC) is a Win32®-based ActiveX® control (COM object) that can be used to run Terminal Services sessions within Microsoft® Internet Explorer. The TSAC web package includes the downloadable ActiveX control and sample Web pages that can be used as a starting point for running Windows-based programs inside Internet Explorer. Developers can also use the TSAC to develop client-side applications that interact with applications running on a terminal server. In addition to the TSAC web package, Microsoft provides two other packages that demonstrate the flexibility of the TSAC ActiveX control.

File and Print Services for NetWare Password Update
This update addresses the "Correct Password Not Set on Services for NetWare Version 5" issue in Windows 2000. When you use Microsoft Management Console (MMC) on a computer running File and Print Services for NetWare (FPNW) to configure a user account with the NetWare-compatible logon option enabled, the user may not be able to use an existing password to log on to a server running the NetWare operating system. Installing this update allows the user to logon to the NetWare server without incident. (Included with SP1)

1394 System Driver Update
This update addresses the "High Bandwidth Unavailable with VIA 1394 Open Host Controller" issue in Windows 2000. If the 1394 Open Host Controller Interface (OHCI) on a Windows 2000 computer contains four or more ports, certain 1394 devices connected to the 1394 OHCI may be unable to allocate the level of bandwidth that is necessary to transfer data. Installing this update allows the affected 1394 devices to operate at full capacity. (Included with SP1)

Terminal Services License Server Activation Update
This update addresses the "Terminal Services OEM License Server Activation Failure" issue that occurs only on servers that are obtained through Microsoft Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) or System Builders and are configured with the Terminal Services Licensing service. For these specific servers, the Windows 2000 Terminal Services license server activation does not verify the activation certificate obtained from the Microsoft Clearinghouse. This results in a failure to activate the server as a Terminal Services license server. As a result, Windows 2000 Terminal Services Client Access licenses cannot be installed. (Included with SP1)

Windows 2000 Update, "Adobe FrameMaker Cannot Save File as PDF or Print Separations"
Installing this update will resolve an incompatibility between FrameMaker 5.x and either AdobePS5-NT4 5.1.1 or PScript5-2000 PostScript drivers. This update allows Adobe FrameMaker to save PDF files and print separations in Windows 2000. (Included with SP1)

Windows 2000 Update, "Terminal Services OEM License Server Activation Failure"
This update resolves an issue that occurs only on servers that are obtained through Microsoft Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) or System Builders and are configured with the Terminal Services Licensing service. For these specific servers, the Windows 2000 Terminal Services license server activation does not verify the activation certificate obtained from the Microsoft Clearinghouse. This results in a failure to activate the server as a Terminal Services license server. As a result, Windows 2000 Terminal Services Client Access licenses cannot be installed. 

AOL Image Support Update for Windows 2000
This package provides support to display Johnson-Grace compressed images, or .ART files, most commonly used by America Online. If you are an America Online user running Windows 2000, this is a required upgrade.

 "Iomega Tools do not Recognize Parallel Port Drives"
This update addresses the "Iomega Tools do not Recognize Parallel Port Drives" issue found in Windows 2000. Installing this update will resolve an incompatibility between Windows 2000 and Iomega software used to access storage devices attached to a parallel port (Zip or Jaz, for example). This update allows Iomega software tools to view parallel port drives with Windows 2000. (Included with SP1)

 "Incorrect Signature for Xenroll.dll file"
This update addresses the "Incorrect Signature for Xenroll.dll file" issue found in some international language versions of Windows 2000. The Xenroll.dll file is incorrectly signed in the Japanese, German, French, Italian, and Spanish versions of Windows 2000. Client browsers connecting to a Windows 2000 server for certificate enrollment will receive a message stating the file was modified after signing, or that the file is unsigned. Installing this update will provide the correctly signed Xenroll.dll file. (Included with SP1)

Windows 2000 Compatibility Updates
Windows 2000 was specifically designed to allow customers to add additional application support easily after the product shipped. The March 2001 package is the fifth release of additional application support and it includes software compatibility updates for Windows 2000. The March 2001 package includes compatibility updates of the February 2001, October 2000, August 2000, May 2000, and February 2000 packages.

During product compatibility testing prior to release, Microsoft focused on the top volume business applications (thousands of applications run out-of-the-box). With that testing complete, as you can see below, we are now broadening our original focus and have addressed some minor compatibility issues with a few of the more popular home/entertainment/gaming applications.
