nah... I think this is a big part of an evolving strategy... as "services" evolve direct from Microsoft, centralized IT/MIS support will be cut back significantly.
Parallel to this is goodwill with the states... this is very "state" esque... if you will and entirely consistent with the socialization occuring out here... Corporations will mirror what is taking place among governments at every level. Not a good thing in my opinion.
The thing about MS that really worked was that it fed a massive ecosystem many times its own size... that is changing and will accelerate... the ecosystem will shrink in relative terms... same as spending in the private sector is shrinking in relative terms to government spending and influence.
The real question we need to be asking ourselves is very familiar: Will we seek comfort over indepence - much as we sought comfort and complacency over victory in our recent global efforts to combat terrorism. They are similar in many ways... and the people have spoken... they want to comforted and want to remain complacent and not fight - same as they don't care if their independence is gone - so long as they are comfortable.
Used to be young people could not wait to fly from the nest... they did not care how humble their new home was, or how big the TV wasn't... it was "THEIR Home and THEIR TV" - today it is quite different.. I am so old that for me, I would quite literally rather be dead, or live under a tree than be less independent, or less free. This is about big corporations working in ways big governments do. If you're in the channel, start changing your services strategy immediately and focus on leveraging the platforms in very granular ways you can adapt around specific customer needs. You can retain your individual relevance as the world becomes one big dependent mass. Oh.. and look for 2 trillion more to be dumped into the banks.
