VIA Technologies on March 6 introduced its Serial ATA (SATA)/RAID controller chip, the VT6420, further heightening the competition in the RAID chip market this year.
Supporting SATA, RAID and the Parallel ATA (PATA)-133 interfaces, the VT6420 will be showcased next week at the CeBIT Hannover tradeshow and will enter mass production in April, VIA said. Featuring two SATA channels for up to four devices and one PATA channel for up to two devices, the VT6420 also offers a SATALITE Interface which, when paired with Silicon Image’s Sil3012 external PHY chip, can add two more SATA channels.
