Microsoft can't ship software on time, but their machinations are clockwork. We're 18-24 months away from Longhorn availability and the squeeze is starting.
We can talk about several issues, such as the upgraded Internet Explorer which will only work on XP SP2 or better, squeezing out Windows 2000 desktops. Not ready to upgrade until Longhorn? Too bad. Upgrade or switch over to Mozilla.org's Firefox. Hmm, I bet that isn't what Microsoft wants you to do.
More frightening? Microsoft already started squeezing corporate developers at VSLive to quit wasting time with browsers and focus on "Smart Clients," the wave of the future. That is, of course, Microsoft's future revenues and your future headaches.
