Microsoft can't ship software on time, but their machinations are clockwork. We're 18-24 months away from Longhorn availability and the squeeze is starting. We can talk about several issues, such as the upgraded Internet Explorer which will only work on XP SP2 or better, squeezing out Windows 2000 desktops. Not ready to upgrade until Longhorn? Too bad. Upgrade or switch over to Mozilla.org's Firefox. Hmm, I bet that isn't what Microsoft wants you to do. More frightening? Microsoft already started squeezing corporate developers at VSLive to quit wasting time with browsers and focus on "Smart Clients," the wave of the future. That is, of course, Microsoft's future revenues and your future headaches. | ||

I wonder if he truly understands what a smart client is, or if he has ever written one...for a specific application or any thing else...
Sits at home and spews bunk... is what it seems like to me... "The browser, if one will still call it that, is going to be a library of smart clients, where sessions are launched to make use of a very broad variety of applications and experiences - entertainment, communications, etc..." It is not going to stay the way it is - no more than the fax machine hung on against email. "No, no - we all have to run Mozilla FF and connect to our SW on Linuces servers" NO WAY! I wish these people would just get back into their VW buses and leave the adults alone. |

I wrote him an email.
He thinks Smart Client means ActiveX. He didn't understand what a sandbox meant, or anything. Not worth the time of day. |
