Microsoft Announces Launch Venue for Visual Studio .NET, Unveils More Customers Building on .NET Platform | |

During his COMDEX Fall 2001 keynote address, Microsoft Corp. founder, Chairman and Chief Software Architect Bill Gates announced that the launch of Visual Studio® .NET will take place at the VSLive! Conference in San Francisco on Feb. 13, 2002. In addition, Microsoft unveiled new customers deploying solutions on the Microsoft® .NET Platform. ACCOR Services, CafePress.com, Canadian Pacific Railway Co. and Newport News Shipbuilding join a growing list of companies that recognize the business value of building solutions on the .NET Platform: increased productivity, improved time to market, increased revenue and operating margins, and the ability to quickly produce customized solutions. | ||

What myth? .Net will be finished by the end of the year. Just takes time between RTM and actual shipment. For instance all the files for WinXP are dated 8/23/01, but it's release date was 10/25/01.

| When did Microsoft promised to release by the end of the year anyway? Since the days of beta 1 (this time last year), I've only heard that late second half 2001 would be RTM.So far VS.NET pre-releases have only been released at trade shows - PDC 2000, COMDEX 2000, TechED 2001, PDC 2001. Since there aren't any trade shows in late second half (COMDEX of course is too early in fourth quarter), it should be assumed that the official launch wouldn't be until a trade show in early 2002. |

| Microsoft has been consistantly ahead of schedule for .NET releases, including releases for the framework and Visual Studio.NET. |
