Registry Editing Tips

Contiguous File Allocation Size

Here is a tweak to optimize the file system for running multimedia applications. Open the registry editor and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\control\FileSystem. Right-click in the left hand pane, select New, and then DWORD. Name this new DWORD key ContigFileAllocSize. Now highlight this newly created key string, select Modify, and give it a value of 0x000001F4 (hex), or 500 (decimal).

After restarting, you will find that your file system is better on multimedia applications. Defrag your hard drive for best effect.
