Windows Me presents several enhancements that are behind the scene. First, the Auto update feature is charged to silently detect available updates for the system when you are connecting to the net and alert you to decide if you want or not to download them. Windows Me now comes with the same driver signing feature than Windows 2000 that ensures that the drivers you're trying to install were tested by Microsoft and claimed as Windows Me compliant.

The power management has also been improved and a new hibernate feature offers users to hibernate their computer quickly: when you use it the computer's memory will be saved on the hard disk and the computer will shut down; turning on your computer will restore your windows desktop and the software you were running in a few seconds. The files that have not any linked software are now displayed under the Explorer with new icons. Microsoft added a great enhancement to simplify users' life: you do not need to have the Windows Me CD anymore when installing software, devices or anything else that required it. Indeed all the necessary files are copied by the setup on the hard disk. The system files of Windows Me are protected: so vital files cannot be deleted or corrupted at all. Finally the USB and FireWire technology supports have been improved to better work.

Next we have the new warnings such as the one shown in the screenshot below that explains how certain files could be being used by the operating system if you decide to edit them or change their names.
