Introduction

Symantec the uncontested and unrivalled worldwide communicating software manufacturer leader comes back to us with a new milestone of its awesome fax software which is sold all around the world. WinFax Pro 10, in the past named Delrina Fax Pro and bought to Delrina by Symantec in 1996, is a major update of the software that henceforth works perfectly with Microsoft Windows 2000. Even if some thought that the Internet would be the fax's death sentence, this remains, despite everything, a simple, fast, powerful meaning of communication that has a certain legal authenticity. Moreover sending a fax through a PC has several advantages: no need to print the documents, better management of the sent faxes, etc... The fax has thus still beautiful days in the future and Symantec understands this very well.

New features of Symantec WinFax Pro 10 are:

• Drag and Drop Faxing: WinFax PRO 10.0 makes sending a fax drag and drop easy. Simply drag any document to the "WinFax Drag & Drop Depot" icon on the Windows desktop. The WinFax PRO send screen opens with your document ready for faxing. Simply select a fax number and click "send".
• Advanced Dialing: Overlaid, multiple and split area codes have made dialing very complex within North America. WinFax PRO 10.0 handles all of these dialing situations with advanced dialing rules.
• Enhanced User Interface: Find information at a glance, and navigate throughout the WinFax PRO Message Manager with ease, thanks to its new streamlined user interface.
• Photo-quality Images and Laser-quality Text: WinFax PRO creates near-laser-print-quality faxes. No more re-sending faxes that the recipients can't read. All faxes sent from WinFax PRO are straight, clear and legible - even with small font sizes. And with WinFax PRO 10.0's new Photo-quality print system, faxes that contain pictures arrive actually looking like pictures, not black and white blobs.
• Save faxes in any folder: Keep your project data centralized in any folder you wish for better management of project files, contracts and communications. WinFax PRO allows you to save faxes in any Windows folder, along with other documents. You can select individual faxes to save, or select multiple faxes - each will be saved as a single, multi-page file with a meaningful name.
• "Junk Fax" Management: Avoid the time-consuming task of reviewing and deleting unsolicited, unwanted fax advertisements. New Junk Fax Management features in WinFax PRO 10.0 leverage CallerID and/or CSID to automatically delete faxes from defined sources. When a "Junk" fax arrives, the fax will be moved to the wastebasket, and the CallerID and/or the CSID will be added to the list. Future faxes from that sender are automatically moved to the wastebasket.
• Detailed Reporting: Keep on top of your customers with WinFax PRO reporting. You can even track faxing costs - for your own information or billing purposes. WinFax PRO 10.0 can now generate flexible, printable reports on your faxing.

Setup

The setup of WinFax Pro 10 is relatively simple and fast even if we regret that it is not conceived around the new Microsoft 'Windows Installer' technology.  Once the files are copied, the installation program of Winfax Pro 10 will require you to select which modem you want to use in order to configure it. When you’ll have chosen the right modem the setup gives it with a whole series of tests in order to ensure its correct operation with the software. When tests are finished you’ll be asked if you want to start WinFax Pro with your computer or not (it’s a good enhancement ‘cause most of the users doesn’t want to launch it when starting the PC). The last setup question is to configure the faxes sending via email by typing your SMTP server address. Note that you can use several modems with WinFax Pro 10 but you’ll have to configure them.
