Review By: Julien JAY
Introduction
In Windows
95 Microsoft included a small tool named ‘QuickView’ that allowed a
simple right mouse click to view 20 different file formats in a same
unique place without launching the software the files were created with.
It was an awesome revolution that changed the way files were shared. With
the spread of the Internet the need for QuickView Plus has never been so
strong! When I first used it in 1995 I wanted to know who made this
fabulous software, and when I learned that there was a Plus release I
purchased it right away to enjoy the benefits of a file viewer that were
totally integrated with Windows 95. Now five years later, Inso published
the release 6.0 of the software that includes some major new features such
as the support of Project 2000 files and a build-in file explorer.
QuickView Plus is definitely the most efficient way to access and manage
information regardless of source and location.
New
features of QuickView Plus 6.0 are:
- QuickCompress:
QuickView Plus can now compress any combination of files and
folders, allowing you to create new ZIP files or add to existing ZIP
archive files
- Auto
Zip Email attachments: QuickView Plus can now be configured to
automatically compress files overs a specified size when sending
attachments via Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Outlook or Lotus Notes
- New
file navigation pane: QuickView Plus now provides an explorer-like
navigation interface. It emulates your directory structure and allows
to quickly see the contents of folders by merely scrolling through a
display of individual files. For zip files, an additional pane
displays the list of files in archive, with a view of each individual
file displayed in a separate pane
- New
software integration:

Acrobat 4.x Reader
- Lotus
Notes 5

Setup
The setup of QuickView Plus
6.0 is a breeze: in just a few seconds the program will be installed on
your system. You can customize the setup to install or not Adobe Acrobat
Reader, or to choose if you want to install the QuickView Plus sample
files. Best of all is the network-enabled installation for swift
enterprise-wide deployment: during the setup users will have to choose
between three different installation modes that are:
- Standalone
Full Client: The LAN Standalone Full Client configuration will
copy QuickView Plus installation files on to a server for Full Client
Deployment.
- Server/Workstation
Minimal Client: this configuration will install the server portion
of QuickView Plus on a server, as well as installation files for
Workstation Minimal Client deployment.
- Single
User: This configuration installs QuickView Plus on a local
machine.
At the
end of the setup, users are prompted to scan their hard drives to find
software in which QuickView Plus 6.0 can be integrated. Once the scan is
finished, users can choose whether or not to integrate QuickView Plus 6
with the found software.
