If you are wondering why this section is entitled “IIS 5.1 or 6.0?” it is because Microsoft has some discrepancies here.  Let me explain.  Here are two screen shots that justify my confusion:

As you can see, the Internet Services Manager shows that the version of IIS is 6.0; however, the Web documentation shows IIS as being version 5.1.  I guess this doesn’t really matter.  It doesn’t affect the way IIS performs.  It’ll probably be fixed in the final version.  So, for the rest of this article I will simply call it IIS for Whistler.  IIS for Whistler supports a lot of new features, like server extensions for FrontPage 2002 (XP), Windows Media Services, options that extend the functionality of different Whistler components like Terminal Services, and a new feature to Whistler called Microsoft SharePoint.  Most of these options can be added from Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.  SharePoint Services, however, must be added through the Configure Your Server Wizard.
