Microsoft, long a proponent of keeping source code secret, plans to publish the source code to a critical part of its Palladium project to enhance security, a representative of the software giant said Monday. The component--some thousands of lines of source code--is the basic foundation of the security proposed in Microsoft's project and, as such, is the linchpin for the software giant's trusted-computing platform. | ||

And that would be you? If you had any common sense, you'd realize that, as has been said before, the deciding factor on whether this will be good or evil is how it'll be implemented... and guess what... it hasn't been implemented yet. You can spread all the FUD you want to about it, but until we actually see the implementation, you'll just be creating doomsday theories with your speculation. Go right ahead and tell whatever fairytales you want to about it, if it makes you feel important. I'm going to wait to make up my mind until I see some solid implementation specs, as anyone with common sense would. |

kevin, when I think about security, I think about my security (secure from viruses and hacks, encrypted and protected apps and files)--I do not think about MS protecting their own interests or the media industries. 80% of the tech in this is geared towards protecting the "security" (that's funny) of these corporations profits, not my file, application, data security. Never mind the lockouts and activations and keys which may be done right but will still simply be a pain. Never mind the additional costs for new hardware and software. Nevermind that this technology already exists. Never mind that this version will be exclusively controlled by MS.
As for not making up their mind, why don't you ask MS if releasing source code makes the code more susceptible to hackers than closed code or not? We've got MS employees now saying that this code will not be less ecure by being public because seeing source doesn't affect the security of the code (No sh1t). So are they going to pay the ADTI again to rerelease their report to the gov't saying that source code doesn't need to be hidden in the deepest, darkest closet to remain secure? I didn't think so. |
