Google wants to back up your Microsoft Exchange for less | |

Google stepped up its relentless assault on Microsoft's desktop dominance today with the announcement it's offering a cloud-based email backup and disaster recovery service for Microsoft Exchange -- for around half the price of Microsoft's quoted cost. Conveniently, the service also provides a first step for organizations to move from, say, Microsoft Office to Google Apps. | ||

You know, I back up my email and contacts on my Win Mobile phone to the web via an Exchange Server service offered by Google. It works in the background flawlessly. I have never lost an appointment or a contact.
If this works as well for enterprise I see this as a big win for Google. |

Google CEO stated in regards to his company photographing your house, "to just move" if you didn't like it.
He has stated as much in regards to what is contained in your e-mails that cross his companies servers. Google's stance is that if it crosses their servers it is theirs. So, I think I just continue to recommend that my company backup our Exchange e-mails on our own servers. |

| The biggest problem when doing a restore is guessing which link is an ad and which link is the mailbox you want to restore. |

I hear ya guys, but it's just little ol' me what needs his stuff backed up. How come Windows Home Server doesn't offer this? Am I supposed to set up my own Exchange Server? BTW - I hate to sync my phone with a cable and I basically never do it. I don't think I'm alone. |

Do you really want Google reading and indexing your email?
"Why do we let this creepy company called Google spy on our emails?" ... A shiver slid slowly down my spine. The adverts were being specifically targeted at me because of what I had written in a private email to a friend. Though I found the discovery deeply creepy, I carried on using Gmail, noticing all the time that I couldn’t write anything to anyone without Gmail offering me comments, suggestions and temptations. This might just be tolerable when the email is innocuous. But it certainly was not when I recently emailed a lawyer about a difficult and sensitive problem and back came a host of offers advertising various lawyers and help with a legal compromise agreement. I felt as if I were being stalked and the experience left me with a raft of questions. What does Google know about me? How dare they invade my privacy?
