Windows 8 got off to a bad start because Microsoft straight-up ignored all the negative feedback, and the MAJORITY of the feedback WAS negative, regarding the removal of the Start Menu and the forced substitute of using the Start Screen instead. Regardless of this it is still usable, with 3rd-party programs available such as Start8 and Classic Shell fixing the beta that is Windows 8. This oversight SHOULD be fixed in a future Windows update, that is if Microsoft has any sense whatsoever. Removing the desktop, though, would be a failure of EPIC proportion in my eyes. All Microsoft should have done was make the Start Screen an OPTION when upgrading/installing Windows 8. There would have been much less drama and likely much more praise for Windows 8 if they had done this. I would suggest they take this into account if they are even entertaining the though of removing the desktop!
