A Microsoft executive's self-described job of driving Internet Explorer 6 (IE6) into extinction will be difficult unless he can move Chinese users off the aged browser. According to data from Web analytics firm Net Applications, 45.2% of China's Internet users still rely on IE6. | ||

Probably a good question. If they really wanted to push people off ie6 in china they'd could just allow ie7 or 8 downloads to non-windows genuine machines running XP, right? If they don't already offer that then it would probably chop the number of ie6 instances in china in 1/2 or more in 6mo. No?

| #2: they already do allow non-genuine XP's to get IE7/8. The initial version of IE7 was restricted to genuine only, but they loosened this up after about a year. |
