Toshiba already makes small scale, almost portable, nuclear power plants with safety features developed in the west, many in US universities. These are produced in Japan and are limited in production by the long cooling times of the cast components. If Bill Gates can convince Toshiba to produce the small plants to be used in North America, in North America, more power to him.
(Mini-rant ahead) Real manufacturing jobs are needed outside of China. Not everyone can work at Wal-Mart. |

Toshiba didn't do squat other than to see an opening due to our ridiculous fear of a "china syndrome" to buy Westinghouse. You might think that our government was too stupid to halt the sale of a strategic asset. Heck, it wasn't being stupid. It was on purpose.
Now, we will have to buy our technology invented here from another foreign company. Meantime, this administration killed modernization plans of the commerical nuclear processing capability that would make the price of reactor grade material cheap enough to be on par with several other forms of energy. Part of the "green" jobs plan, no doubt. |

| #3: The cost of extension cords will be prohibitive, especially since the cord length, from the fusion reactor to Earth, will need to vary from 91.5 to 94.5 million miles. Or were you thinking of capturing solar energy from a distance. Nah, that'll never work. |

Sooner or later someone will be able to replicate what happen on the sun: a nuclear fusion.
What we do right now is "just" a nuclear fission. Whoever will succeed in replicate the nuclear fusion will receive a lot of Noble prizes. |
