IBM on Tuesday began selling credit card-size laptop modems to customers of the new Sprint PCS wireless Web service called "PCS Vision," an IBM representative said. The cards, from Novatel Wireless, cost about $300 and are available on IBM's Web site. They work on the Sprint PCS network only, the representative said.
Big Blue intends to sell the cards to its business clientele, the "road warriors" who are among the first to use new wireless services like PCS Vision that promise a wireless Web experience rivaling that of dial-up service. Sprint PCS sells two other modems, at $250 and $350, on its Web site and through its retail outlets.
