Every once in a while Microsoft will share, most of the times inadvertently, details about future projects. The Windows Update Client for Windows 8 is in “planning and preparation.” Could this means that Windows 8 itself is in “planning and preparation?” | ||

Uh... does anyone seriously need to ask that question? "3rd-party application updates"... please, please, please let this be a success. I'm looking at you, Adobe Reader. |

| Using WU as an update mechanism for 3rd-party software has been talked about for years, but I don't know if MS has much to gain from such a program versus the cost and liability aspects. |

#1 Bro, FoxIt Reader nuff said.
#2 Yea I've been waiting for it to become a reality. It does have tons of value to add for MS. Having their OS update all the major titles on your system is a huge selling point. They'd have to have some solid contracts with third parties who take advantage of it. I'd imagine they'd have published requirements both of the installed software and maybe even require third parties to host their own source servers or something. Lord knows since Adobe can't seem to write a Windows Service to update flash they should be first in line to sign up. |

| #3: I know about FoxIt, PDF X-Change (which is quite nice), Sumatra, etc... but they don't have the third-party integrations that Adobe Reader offers. At any rate, Adobe Reader is just one example... Flash and Java are a couple others that would be very nice to have. |
