I have very mixed, yet clear feelings about this - yeah, Huh? contradict myself out the gate...
We have an economic system that depends upon growth and that means more people - yet we have an immigration policy that is a mess, because in practice we have policies that dilute what it is to be a citizen. Immigration on a massive scale needs to be encouraged and supported, because our young people are not having kids and our population must grow. Worse, the kids we do have are not encouraged to learn foreign languages and this limits their thinking and perspectives on many things.
Companies need talented people. Every business person struggles to find great people. We look for them constantly. I've hired people off of the street and trained them and sent them to school. Some are from foreign countries and they wanted jobs. I asked them what their plans were/are and took note of those that wanted to become citizens - so we sponsored them and provided time and resources and our own efforts to teach them about our Republic. I've been honored to see them sworn in as citizens.
We pay all people about 40% above market and cover all benefits 100%, BUT they guys earn it and earn their way up to those levels. We also share profits, so if a guy brings in a deal, he gets 25% of the recurring on top of base - all he has to do is bring it in - he does not have to close it - I do that, so there are no conditions placed on them.
I'm mixed, because as a patriot I want companies to hire at home, but home must be the great open place that embraces everyone from every other place - provided that one flag and our constitution stand as common to all. No divided allegiance - despite maintaining a healthy respect for all the cultures that make us great. One flag. One set of laws for all. Unlimited opportunity for all, attended be strict demands for individual accountability.
Where this fails is when companies do things on the cheap and simply export labor, or when they import labor without creating a place at our national table. To these I have some news... federations will make your corporations irrelevant and every person will be taught to see themselves as an enterprise and how to build wealth and we'll do it simply by sharing what we have - platform, resources and a recurring cut of the take. When you do this you should see what people do. Work no longer seems like work and people are free in ways that have zip to do with money. We will not relent and we will not fail and one day massive corporations will not be nearly as powerful as they are today.... and we do not need any form of government to make it happen. One flag. One constitution and a whole lot of individuals whose only common beliefs are in those two things. All the differences we celebrate just as we express the same in the wild variety of foods and designs we all enjoy.
