#3, Oldog, I was definately of the same opinion initially.... and like it seems for you, it was more than just familiarity with one UI over another. I looked a good bit deeper and started to find a lot to like about the new OS and then unlike any new OS, 7 started to creep up on me and I found myself missing its features and many of its new UI elements. It was kind of weird, actually - as no OS had quite done that before. I am a big one about muscle memory - so it was especially odd to find myself wanting to run the new OS vice Vista - which for me, has been really nice.
Now that said, I agree with TL when he says that any owner of Vista deserves a free upgrade to Windows 7. There, I said it. I really believe that despite Vista's value, the changes and costs users paid for, qualify them for this no-cost upgrade. While I know it was pretty easy to deliver great Vista experiences, I also know a great many OEM's didn't. Ultimately, that was MS's fight to win - their responsibility to influence the OEM's and have them ship solid builds at all price points. The OEM's chose not to. Even if MS had to cut prices to them to help keep the junk off of the PC's shipping, it would have been worth it, I think.
