Jon Box: Since I'm having several conversations with customers about preparing for IE8, I wanted to share a few links so I don't lose them. This is not a post about the cool new features like WebSlices and Activities, but about information on preparing an existing site.

| Why would anyone need to make their site ready for IE8? Make the site standards-compliant and stay away from proprietary extensions and then everyone should be able to use it. |

2. "..against my browser that has CSS 2.1 compliance" (= w3c standards compliant) Obviously, he is talking about "ready for IE8" meaning "CSS 2.1 ready." What exactly is the problem? |

Don't forget that some browser behaviors are not specified in the standards, or rather are left up to the user agent, so different browsers -- and even different versions of the same browser -- may behave differently. Without testing we cannot know how IE8 will behave, so we cannot know whether any changes in IE8-specific CSS are needed to avoid problems, even if sites are designed to the standards.
For example, the marker position and indent size in LI lists are controlled in different ways by different browsers, e.g. with one technique used in IE4, another in IE5, and yet another in IE6 and up. |
