Microsoft Witness Asked Gates for a Favor | |

Microsoft Corp.'s first witness against antitrust sanctions sought by nine states admitted in court on Tuesday that he asked for a favor when Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates called seeking his testimony. Jerry Sanders, chief executive of computer chip-maker Advanced Micro Devices Inc. , also conceded he had not read the states' proposed sanctions, but that Gates had told him they were "crazy" and would fragment the Windows operating system. Howard Gutman, an attorney for the states, told U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly that Sanders asked Microsoft to announce support for its chip technology, codenamed Hammer, ahead of a competing product just being developed at Intel Corp. | ||

| That has to be one of the dumbest things I have ever heard. What was he going to testify to, "Bill told me it was bad so I just believe him". What a moron, it sounds like Jerry is not as smart as he thinks he is. And if that is the best MS has, they better just agree to the sanctions now and give up. I would have thought with all there lawyers and all there money they could have at least found a witness that read the remedies first. |

| Wouldn't the competitor to the Hammer be some form of the Itanium? If so, MS already supports the Itanium. If not, to what Intel chip AMD is referring? |

The thing is, the Microsoft witnesses have no reason to lie.
They are taking great risk and public embarassment to come out in defense of Microsoft. For the states, it was obvious their witnesses were lying for personal and corporate gain. |

daz, that's a bit propagandistic, don't you think.
Microsoft witness have just as much reason to lie. Those who criticized MS took great risk and possibly retaliation from Microsoft (i.e. Sony, Gateway) Didn't we find out that Sanders would say whatever Bill wanted to get Hammer approved? Sounds like personal and corporate gain to me? |
