Microsoft finally provided an update on its Windows Vista Community Technology Preview (CTP) program on Tuesday. As rumored, there will not be a November CTP of Vista. Microsoft has dubbed Build 5259, which went to Technology Adoption Program testers just before Thanksgiving, as an Internal Development Workstation (IDW), rather than a CTP, build. But there will be a December Vista CTP, the Softies say, which will go to testers before Christmas. After that, there will be more CTPs, but Microsoft is not committing to a monthly schedule for them. Beta 2 still sounds like early 2006, although Microsoft officials would not say so directly. But officials did say the final ship date is still second half of 2006.
