dave,
That's funny. My company has been using Symantec AV for 4 years (2 servers, 25 clients) and has never had a problem or a virus. Nor have my two home PC's running NAV (varoius versions, from 2001-2005), and the one running SAV.
Interesting thing about daily updates, they really aren't necessary as a matter of course. Most of the major vendors, Symantec and McAfee included, will update on a daily basis when warranted (like this week), but why update daily and waste the bandwidth (which many who are still on dial up don't have nearly enough of) when there's no need to? If you really want that extra special "warm fuzzy feeling" of daily updates, Symantec does make them available, and it's rather easy to automate that process if you choose to.
The only folks who have a "right" to get a virus are the ones who don't have ANY AV or firewall protection, and those who for some inexplicable reason choose not to apply critical software updates.
