Microsoft: No New Sybari Sales for Unix, Linux | |

Microsoft's enterprise anti-virus plans do not extend to customers on Unix and Linux platforms. On the day the software giant completed its purchase of Sybari Software Inc., a deal first announced in February, Microsoft Corp. announced it would immediately discontinue new sales of Sybari's flagship Antigen suite for the Unix and Linux platforms. The move means that Sybari Antigen 6.0 for Lotus Domino servers running IBM's AIX Unix operating system will be dropped from the product line. | ||

#2: No one with a brain ever said Linux/Unix was invulnerable to viruses. However, since the average user is running with user rights and not root all the time, the only real damage is potentially to your user files. A virus won't infect the whole OS.
I wonder if this is another phase of MS' plan to compete with Linux. Buy every company out that makes a *nix product and then shut them all down. I remember that GeCAD also had some Linux software that MS 'disappeared' after the sale, and they tried to scare people from using Linux under Virtual PC by making noises about how it's unsupported, even though it's worked for years. |

Maybe Microsoft dropped Sybari support of Unix and Linux because of this: "Sybari has about 10,000 customers worldwide, but only a small fraction of those are running on Unix and Linux platforms, Roberts added."
#1 - only in some bizarro world would someone think what you stated. #3 - What are you chiming in for? You wouldn't actually buy software anyway. You've stated more than once that you steal all manner of IP from the likes of Bitorrent, et al. Oh! Wait a minute. Now we get it. It is limiting your choice of theft. Well, call in the states attorneys' offices - bobsireno is right after all - this is definitely anti-trust! |

#9: and that's what backups are for. And that's also a worst case scenario. Your *nix box won't be blasting the FBI as part of a DDOS, nor will it send out oodles of spammy goodness, nor will it host pedo/porno/phishing websites. Besides, the *nix anti-virus solutions are to clean Windows malware off your web/mail server so it isn't used as an attack vector to infect Windows boxes.
