Microsoft is beefing up its corporate instant messaging product lineup with new extras like firewall traversal and collaboration, as it prepares to launch its code-named Istanbul desktop communications client, possibly as early as Tuesday. All the deal making and development work is an attempt to kick-start a market for corporate instant messaging, which hasn't not grown as quickly as anticipated although a growing number of businesses are increasingly making use of popular desktop IM clients. | ||

Hmm. How about creating a tool that allows our group of 20 people to use... and then when others see it, they'll ask for it too... and then eventually someone decides we've got enough people using it, let's pull it into corporate IT?
That's the evoluiton of the desktop. That's how you make things happen in the corporate IT world. But.... NOOOO!!!! Microsoft only provides an enterprise tool to start with. To install the damn thing you have to be an enterprise admin so as to make the changes into the active directory schema. This may have changed since the last time I looked at it, but I doubt it since they are only making the thing more complicated than easier. That's why we are still using AIM and MSN here. It's why we're now looking at implementations of Jabber, etc. |
