Linux gets a good share of the headlines, but Windows server software is grabbing a good share of the dough. In reporting its second-quarter financial results Thursday, Microsoft said revenue at its Server and Tools division, which caters to business customers, grew 18 percent year over year. Licenses sales of Windows server, which competes head-to-head with open-source software Linux and other server operating systems, grew 17 percent year over year. Despite the threat posed by open-source products, Microsoft server software sales have been growing at double-digit rates for several quarters. Meanwhile, revenue from its current cash cows--its Windows desktop and Office products--have been flat or growing in the single digits, analysts noted. | ||

| Yeah, it's a huge conspiracy to make MS look bad. Either that or MS is just an unethical, greedy company that will do as it pleases to get what it wants, and is VERY bad at hiding its motives. One of the two. |

#3 "MS' morals can be debated as much as they want." There's really not much to debate - they're a corporation, they have no morals unless it affects their bottom line in a considerable way. "You don't hear near as much publicity when there is a Linux or Mac OS security vulerability." Perhaps you're not reading enough sites in that case. Sure your main stream media isn't going to write an article each time there's some vulnerability in OS X or Linux given that Windows have over 90% market share. Just like they're not going to write about every single event that occurs around the world and instead focus on those events that they feel their readers will be most interesed in reading. |

Corporations, big and small are run by people. I can tell you from all I have seen, these people care so deeply about doing what is right, that you cannot possibly imagine. I know, I live it, grew a little company and I see it - in my own company and among many peers in the same boat. From really big companies as big as GE all teh way down to small professional services shops. I see a ton of people caring, working their tails off and sacrificing for their people and what is the right thing to do - compliance, benefits, environment, all of it. I see and hear the questions constantly and have asked them myself - are we doing what is right and paying huge bucks to people who's job it is to know. I do not know any asshats that run or even influence companies - however flawed, I just have not seen the intent. I've seen and made terrible decisions, learned from them and worked harder not to make them again. Not in one case have I ever seen any one leading a corp. at any level intentionally do the wrong thing. It's a lot like NFL Quarterbacks, once you get ot a certain level you just do not see bad one's. Sure some, lose, and some are best, but any one of them can whip a ball so fast it'd rip the average man's hands off. The same is true among companies.
