Face it, consoles must have good sports titles or they won’t reach one of the largest groups in this highly lucrative arena. Sports games sell consoles. Madden 2001 and SSX Tricky outsold everything during the PlayStation 2 launch last year and stayed atop the charts for many months following. The Xbox is set to have a stellar lineup of sports goodies including both lineups from Sega and EA – football is usually the big boy and sure enough, Microsoft’s ramping up with three quality titles: Madden 2002, NFL 2K2, and NFL Fever 2002, with the latter being an Xbox exclusive. Madden is looking better than ever and fans of the 2K series will most definitely still like it on the Xbox, but some new fans will be born when they get their hands on NFL Fever. It’s a new kind of football, reminiscent of my old Tecmo Super Bowl days when football was just fun to play.
