Total bull crap. The reason Office is the defacto standard is that its competition dropped the ball. WordPerfect was the standard for years, but its programmers sat on their laurels and let Microsoft pull ahead, and stay ahead. Lotus 123 was the standard for spread sheets, but again, their programmers refused to innovate, and ... as they say, you snooze you lose.
No, the reason Microsoft has the Lion's share of the market in OS, Office, etc... is because they have the best there is.
Now.... We have to see if Microsoft will sit on their laurels, and let OpenOffice and Linux shoot past them. It could happen if Microsoft doesn't heed what happened to its former competitors.
The public goes for what's best, not just what's cheapest.
