| Neu - Every time Acrobat goes into a stop responding phase for me it's because their auto-update logic kicked in, but the dialog is hidding behind the IE page. Can't minimize, have to do Alt-Tab to bring it up. |

| Are you running a software firewall? It could be incompatible with an IPSec addition (I think that's what it was). There was news a while back about an XP update that exposed an incompatibility in some firewalls with the new protocol. |

| If it's zonealarm your using.. many folks have reported this issue.. ie recent versions of za dont function correctly with sp4. |

Check that you have the latest Windows Updates. There was one that fixed debugger message handling that caused slowdowns. It has since been updated to fix the slowdown issue. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/security/bulletin/MS03-013.asp |

Soda - Have you found away to permanently disable Adobe's auto-update 'feature' ? This is the WORST implementation of an auto-update feature I have ever seen. It continuously hangs up because it can't reach the web resource, and I've actually had to hard-reset machines because of this stupid thing.
And all of their products install it by default now :( TL |

It probably installs Q811493. That 'security' update has been a nightmare for a lot of people. Every WinXP machine I've installed it on has lost network connectivity and I've had to remove it. The damned thing is STILL on Windows Update too. This has been reported in quite a few places so it's not just me. TL |

TL, are you sure you don't mean Q818043?
Q811493 caused performance issues on some systems. It has since been updated to fix those issues. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;811493 Q818043 is an L2TP/IPSec update that updated Win2k/XP to the latest IETF spec. Some firewalls require certain ports to be open to be compatible with the new spec and allow traffic to pass through. If the ports aren't open, or the firewall uses the same ports, it could result in loss of connectivity.
