A glitch is preventing a significant number AOL Time Warner's Road Runner customers from using the high-speed Internet service to connect to certain Microsoft Web sites. The problem, which cropped up Tuesday morning, is ongoing and prevents customers from accessing a number of Microsoft sites including Hotmail e-mail and the MSN portal, according to a Road Runner representative and reports from readers. | ||

| I know that in a lot of areas where you get RoadRunner, you can also get Earthlink Cable internet over the same wires. |

The problem is the data still goes over the same wires. :-)
You still go through TW's network on the way to Earthlink's. I have Earthlink Cable over TW and I couldn't get to MSDN or log on to MSN Messenger yesterday. I thought MS may have been changing their DNS or something. A few good things about Earthlink over TW -- the package is cheaper (if you order it through Earthlink), you get bakup dial-up service, and you don't have to worry about the price of the cable internet service going up if you decide to switch from cable television to satellite. |

| From my experience, problems with RoadRunner are not TW wire problems, they're RoadRunner technology problems from the various crappy servers they use (the news server here where I live is a crappy Linux box that never seems to work right, drops posts, screws up dates, etc). |

RoadRunner uses AOL's network.
Their servers (in addition to *.aol.com and *.rr.com) show as *.atdn.net There are probably others as well. |

| So this must be why Win Messenger wouldn't connect at all yesterday... seems to be working fine today though. |
