while I agree with you on the no legacy, unfortantly there are times when it will be required. and most of that is in the industry. (lots of devices still need rs 232 or rs 485 to communicate, the first is of course your standard serial port)

No PCI or PCI-X you won't seriously see that for at least 5 years. PCI Express while nice will have a phase in, just like PCI did with the older bus. at first you will see one or 2 1 path and a
AGP replacement port. Eventually when the industry has time to account for the Millions of PC's with a PCI bus now, the switch to PCI express will be complete.
PATA I'll give about 4 more years before the transistion is complete, (at least we have MOBO's that are using SATA now on at least 1 channel if not 2 or more) Although the main hold up on it When well the peripherals change to sata directry, CD rom r rw dvd rom r rw type devices
besides the parallel port, most of the others listed are scheduled to be phased out in this years version of the PC spec. and intel is suppose to be starting a legacy free push in June of this year. This will also contain the EFI which will get rid of VGA eventually.
