Kevin, when I'm at work I don't subscribe to email lists (unless it's specific to my job), naturally--that just makes sense. This morning I received a "TOTALLY UNCENSORED BUKKAKE FEST!!!" site ad (complete with pictures!)--their claim is I opted-in.
Uh, no. Sorry. No bukkake for me at work, thanks. It's annoying, potentially damaging, and sometimes illegal (got the teen-horse one yet? I did...5 times).
The point being, if you post a message to a SINGLE usenet group, or even a protected group (like for Corel Paradox--hosted on Corel's own servers) you'll get swamped. Also, I think that some (no really?) mail servers out there are keeping records of emails received, and from whom, and they're selling the list. Why else would someone in my position get the stuff I get? It's weird....
