CES: It will be too late for the first buyers but Microsoft's Smart Display technology will get an important upgrade later this year. An update of Microsoft's Smart Display technology will address shortcomings in the initial version, which Bill Gates is due to launch late on Wednesday during his keynote speech at the CES show in Las Vegas. | ||

| The same Remote Desktop on Windows 2000 Server and .NET Server 2003 supports 3 concurrent sessions. I don't believe it has anything to do with techinical problems. It has everything to do with MS wants to control the licensing of the OS. There are rumors that final release of .NET Server will only support 1 session of RDP. XP Home/Pro licensing states that you can only have one session of desktop presentation at any time. Having RDP client and console session run concurrently violates this policy. |

Well, yes and no... In XP Pro, it's just a checkbox. In Home, it's far more convoluted and requires the use of Windows Messenger. TL |

You are absolutely right. There are two 'modes' you can enable Terminal Server under in Windows 2000 Server. The Administrative Mode and the normal user mode. Note - Wording I've used here may not be exact. When enabled in Admin mode, it limits the number of concurrent connections, and only allows those with full Admin privilages to connect under that mode. In the normal user mode, each user must have a Terminal Server license. I run all my servers at home in TS Admin mode so I can maintain them from one machine. I also use it to run Windows Software on my Mac since Microsoft delivered a rather impressive RDP Client for MacOS X. TL |

RDP client is just half of the function of Mira. The other half is that the Mira device should act as PC's monitor not remote client when docked. So there needs some OS support for seemlessly transition between two modes. If you just want to remotely access your win2k server, .NET server or XP Pro machine, just buy a laptop. It's cheaper and doesn't have Mira's shortcomings. |
