Is West Virginia counting on Andrew "Jack" Whittaker Jr. to help underwrite its appeal of the Microsoft antitrust case? Apparently not. Whittaker, a resident of Scott Depot, W. Va., won the $314.9 million Powerball jackpot last week, opting to take a $170 million lump sum. Of that amount, $11 million will go to state income taxes, but none of that cash is likely to go toward the antitrust fight. | ||

| Regardless, this story is totally lame. Only lawyers and jerks would even conceivably consider such a nebulous link between some a-hole winning the lottery and the money going to fight MS. |

I am glad. I wish these idiot states would give up this lame lawsuit, and use their funds instead to hire inventive programmers, and come up with better software, rather than going to uncle sam to help them.
What is sad about the lottery is that the guy that won was already a millionaire. I really wish some poor person that really needed the money could have won, or even say 100 poor people could have split this... |

#4 - I don't know what West Virginia's economic situation is, but here in Minnesota our state budget is looking at about a $1,000,000,000 deficit this next year.
$10 mil is a drop in the bucket to most state budgets and probably doesn't mean a whole lot. |
