Well, the page does answer one question I was wondering about.
.Net Server DOES indeed contain the Windows Product Activation 'feature'. I'm suprised to see that on an enterprise level product, and that's going to be a big turn-off to a lot of IT pro's. TL |

Why would it turn them off? In fact, I say if it turns off an IT Pro, the IT Pro needs to be fired, as he/she does not know how to do their job. WPA is simply a "would you like to activate your product now over the internet, by phone, or later", you choose to activate and you are done. Seeing where as this is a server product, you shouldn't have to do it again, as you aren't supposed to be going around changing hardware all the time within a server, it's just supposed to sit there providing network services. |

| TL: I would guess that under volume purchase programs, you would not have to deal with product activation. That is the way it is now with volume licenses of Office XP and Windows XP. |

It turns us off cause in a crunch when were dealing rebuilding a server in some remote farken location and dont have our the correct key handy were SOL, and even if we do we gotta sit on the dam phone for 20min with ms to explain the situation.
Win2k seems fine to me...I've be pushing off the .netserver upgrades as long as possible. |

| CPUGuy (or anyone for that matter), would swapping hot-swappable drives all the time with different serial number cause you to have to reactivate? I have never had to reactivate XP but I thought when you changed 6 things, you had to reactivate. So, I would think 6 different HDs would do the same. Maybe not. |

Ah... as it said on the page:
Activation will not be required when you acquire the final release of the product through one of Microsoft's volume licensing programs, such as Open or Select. This post was edited by bluvg on Thursday, July 25, 2002 at 00:53. |
