My guide to system stability:
I don't know what Norton Systemworks does, never had a need for it.
Generally every time I've seen a system hang, it's not software it is hardware. Software tends to cause things to throw exceptions that may or may not be handled properly. With hardware, things just lock up.
I had an interesting situation where my computer would freeze up and I'd have to reboot. But what I noticed one day was that when it did freeze I could still connect to it via the network. I determined that the freeze was caused by the video card, so my first conclusion after that was it was overheating. Opened up case, pointed fan at it and had no more lockups.
