SOME retailers sold out of Xbox 360 within hours of its midnight launch today, after hundreds of gamers waited in long queues to get their hands on the new gaming console. More than 350 stores around Australia and New Zealand stayed open to the wee small hours to satisfy the Xbox fans.
The Sydney launch was the biggest, with an estimated 400 to 1000 people braving wet weather in a 150-metre queue that snaked from Pitt St Mall past Castlereagh St until 2am. Hundreds more turned out in Brisbane and Melbourne. "We've done midnight launches before but this was the biggest ever. We were surprised at the turnout last night," said Steve Wilson, managing director of gaming retailer EB Games.
