Can Microsoft win the hearts and minds of open source devotees, some of whom perhaps see Microsoft as their archenemy? If not them, then how about maintaining the hearts and minds of corporate technology buyers?
Microsoft, in the form of an email from Bill Gates today, is saying that open source and interoperability are not necessarily the same thing.
Well, Gates does have a point. Since when does giving away software and allowing users to mess with the source code automatically equate to interoperability? This might just result in a royal mess of code that is not at all interoperable.
