Mozilla scrambles to patch Firefox for second time this week | |

Mozilla Corp. will probably release a Firefox update tomorrow to patch a bug in the just-released 2.0.0.10 version, according to the company's bug database. If so, it would mark the first time that Mozilla has released two versions of the open-source browser in the same week. A bug in rendering "canvas" HTML elements worked its way into Firefox 2.0.0.10, the edition Mozilla released Monday to fix six other vulnerabilities. Canvas elements, which were first used by Apple Inc. in its Safari browser, let Web site designers dynamically render bitmap images in HTML. Firefox, Safari and Opera support Canvas natively; Microsoft Corp.'s Internet Explorer does so with a plug-in. All editions of Firefox 2.0.0.10 -- for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux -- break pages that include the Canvas element, and cripple at least two Firefox extensions, FoxSaver and Fotofox. | ||

| #25: Actually, that is not the reason I came back. In fact, I am not entirely sure why I came back. I suspect boredom at the office played a big part in it. No site is immune to the finger pointing problem, but this site is worse than some, and better than others. There are other sites where people will argue against your ideas, but they at least put more effort into making a rational argument, rather than simply dragging out the exact same comments and self-referential links. |

I think everyone here knows one another well enough that the falming is a lot more about good natured ribbing than real flaming.
Most other sites get really nasty really quickly - at least here people try and make a discussion of it and we all apologize when we get carried away - I know I have, and have cause to express real regret for having opened my big fat keyboard too soon, or without enough thought. Most other sites offer nothing - same old news, no community and real wars where no one shares anything at all. I've seen better here. I do wish Latch were smarter and could make more substantive comments <see, I'm baiting here...>, but even he knows, no one means any real harm. There is a real opportunity to share good stuff, but it isn't easy - too much crap is published out there to get around it and people don't have time to read much in the way of truth. The stories being posted are poor and getting worse - I mean, where is the discussion about the new Windows Live - I mean, Live Writer, for example is great for novice and pro bloggers alike - it really is innovative, agnostic as to choices and it works - I have tested it with my own blog and the new awin and it is cool - very cool. Same drill for the new Live Mail and associated connectors... great stuff and again, totally open and agnostic as to choices - it connects as well to GMAIL as it does Hotmail, etc.... Or how about Exchange 2007 SP1 and the new OWA and Mobile Device Management - anyone seen any stories about not just its availability, but how far along they came with it? How one can so easily manage so much??? See, all of this requires the twits in our press to actually do things.... but they DON'T - they just drivel on about the end user crap they do use - never more, because they aren't at all close to anything that requires any real work. It really upsets me that we are so ill served. What about the massive update to Xbox Live?? Zip out here - or how a Zune 80 works as a wireless Apple TV in your pocket and how it supports veyr high resolutions???? Not just the 320 x 240 people say it does - ever see it connected via component cables.... happily making recorded HDTV????? any of that? Nope. Not a word and it's just awful. What about Silverligt 2.0 and how it is now availble to .NET and WPF Everywhere? That is bad to the bone stuff - Rich Internet Applications and finally, the death of the irrelevant browser - just as I said it would one day soon be - about how all this nonsense about browsers is just that. A few years from now and no one will be coding for the browser - mark my words. It is indeed, time. An finally, anyone using a Centak drive with a 4 GB ReadyBoost mod and a PCI Express Card BUS - it makes Vista haul like you can't imagine - 2 x RB over RAM 2:1, that is.... - amazing stuff and a <$150.00 USD add-on.
