The focal point of Apple's marketing strategy is the "digital hub" -- a plan that puts the Macintosh at the center of an array of devices that produce, manipulate and capture digital video (DV) and audio. Apple also invented and co-developed the FireWire (IEEE 1394) standard to connect most of these DV devices.
WiebeTech and EZQuest have exploited the connection method from a different angle, producing sleek, fast and easy-to-connect external FireWire drives that can store all of the digital media generated in a digital hub environment.
