Poll: IT looking for MS substitutes | |

Fifty-five percent of IT managers surveyed in a recent poll were considering other vendors and options as a result of Microsoft's changes to its licensing model. The survey, conducted through ZDNet Australia's IT Manager Update newsletter, also found that 15 percent of respondents were still investigating implications, with another 15 percent indicating that the changes would result in spending cuts elsewhere. Only five percent of respondents felt that they wouldn't be affected by the changes. Reports in recent weeks have labeled the new licensing plan as controversial, with cost one of the reasons customers were resisting the changes. | ||

I can just imagine what the questions were like.

"Bill Gates is the richest man in the world. Microsoft has $48 billion and are an evil, bad, and nasty company. Do you want to give them any more of your hard-earned money?" [ ] Yes [ ] No |

binhex, you are just as quick to defend the survey... yet you haven't read it either.
And I'm surprised it was ONLY 55%. I "consider" other vendors 100% of the time. |

I agree, mooresa56.
Every 6 months for the past 15 years, I've gone looking for auto insurers that can provide the coverage, premiums, and service I want. For 15 years straight, Allstate has provided my auto insurance. Next month, I come up for renewal and I'll shop around again, not because I'm unhappy with Allstate but only because I'm a smart consumer. Holedup ...is not because IT professional is not looking for alternatives, but there are other factors out there to consider. Yes you're IT Manager can come up with an altertive to Windows or Office, but the IT Manager has to give his suggestion to the person who is incharge of the company.
Another thing to watch out for is productivity. MS has saturated the markert out there with Windows and Office which means users out there are used to what they're using, and if they have to learn a new one, work productivity will be down for awhile. Cost of training for users and IT will also bring the cost up. Like I said there are more factors out there to consider ...this is just some of them.
