Software firm RealNetworks says it has found a way for tunes from its store to be played on devices like Apple iPods.
Previously, Apple's player was limited to digitally-protected tracks downloaded from iTunes online stores.
The Harmony software means tunes from Real's net store will play on iPods, as well as Microsoft-compatible devices.
The program mimics Apple's copy protection software, so Real says it has not infringed Apple's intellectual property rights by developing it.
