Last year, Red Hat CEO Matthew Szulik thought Sun Microsystems' open source-based alternative to Microsoft's widely used Office software would encourage broader use of the Linux operating system on desktops and perhaps loosen the iron grip of Windows. But Szulik abandoned those hopes when Sun started charging for its StarOffice product and changed its way of dealing with the original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), such as Red Hat, which can bundle it with their own offerings. Szulik accused Sun of adopting the domineering methods of mutual enemy Microsoft.

It's good to see that Red Hat isn't as stupid as the rest. While I still don't think they "Get It"(tm), at least they aren't willing to take a blind eye to the transgressions of it's supposed allies.
Focusing on MS as the bad guy is short sighted. As MS gets hammered more and more by the government and becomes weaker, companies like Sun and Oracle are going to get more rambunctious and are going to be 5x worse than MS ever was, even in it's hay-day.

Sun and Oracle treat their customers like crap, treat their competitors like crap, write crappy buggy and security-hole ridden software just like, or worse than Microsoft.
Without MS to hold them in check, they'll only get worse.

It is good to see that RedHat has opened its eyes, but it is not enough.
The right solution will be that the other Linux distros like Mandrake and Suse do not include StarOffice 6.0 until it is free again, but they will not, because you like it or not these companies will kill to have the business model from Microsoft.
So, the conclusion is that they use the OSS to build their own business model from scratch, and when they have enough money, they will forget about open source and GPL, and so on.
I have spoken.

Trust me... I hate Sun... but don't they have the same right as Microsoft to try and make money?
Last time I checked, that was kinda the point of running a business.

I have to agree with RMD. What Redhat is accusing Sun of doing is trying to make a profit. Exactly what is wrong with that?
I'm not a big fan of Sun by any means, but they're at least more clueful than RedHat.
daz appears to pretty much follow the right-wing doctrine of attack politics. Doesn't matter if it's right or wrong, the point is to attack the supposed enemy and destroy them at all costs. That's sad.

I've got to agree (for the most part) with SodaBlue. Personally, I wish Sun would vanish from the face of the earth, but they've got a right to try to make money. While this seems more like a move to save the company from it's impending doom, there's nothing wrong with them doing it.
The real story here is that the Linux pseudo-companies can't stand business being business, and try to make them seem evil for behaving as such.

The Open Source crowd duped themselves by believing that all software would be free beer.
Look... I'm all for Open Source. I think it'd be very useful to have the sourcecode to a variety of programs. But I also am pragmatic and if I am going to benefit from the use of some software, I am more than willing to pay for it.

#7: Are smoking crack? Really? Are you so disillusioned that you think that left-wing and Democrats are holy?
Do you not see Daschle and Gephardt throwing everything they can at Busy and seeing if it'll stick?
Hell, they even went so far as to accuse him having a part in Sept11. They heavily implied that the intelligence foul-ups were "highly suspicious" which basically means that they are accusing Bush in having more a part in Sept-11 than just ignorance of the situation.
The worse the Republicans ever did was jump on Clinton's case for defiling the White House and for abusing his power and lying before a Grand Jury (that's perjury, he was found guilty, and settled, and he had his Bar revoked... that's a fact Sodablue, you can't deny it with your head in the sand like everything else).
At least when Republican's attack, it's because there are facts and proof of something.
The democrats just make up lies. Did you see that article from the WSJ a few weeks ago about the intercepted memo from Democrat staffers talking about how they were going to attack Republicans on social security even though they knew it "probably wasn't true"?
Why are you so blind?
The Democrats made up the whole "Newt Gingrich wants to starve children!" Or "Bush wants old people to go poor by taking away Social Security with his tax cuts". When in actuality, the Democrats spend far more of the SS trust fund then Bush ever took away with the tax cuts.
I suggest you read some newspapers and sources outside of CBS news, soda, because you are sorely misinformed.

#12 - Whatever you are smoke, I want some!
"I suggest you read some newspapers and sources outside of CBS news, soda, because you are sorely misinformed. "
Daz... Let me clue you in. I'm more informed than you are. That's why I can see past the bullshit, whereas you just suck it up like a sheep with no brain.
Tell ya what. First go read David Brock's book explain just how far the Right-Wing has gone over the past 10 years in the practice of lying. Then stop listening to Rush Limbaugh for your news.
