Windows 7 Promises Big Improvements in Battery Life | |

Improvements in both the Microsoft Windows 7 operating system and Intel's upcoming Westmere processors will result in significant increases in battery life, executives said in a press conference on Tuesday. In a demonstration of two identically configured ThinkPads T400s, Intel and Microsoft claimed that a Windows XP SP2 machine consumed on average 20.2 watts, while the Windows 7 machine consumed 15.4 watts. That translated to about 1.4 hours of additional battery life, executives said. | ||

Appears it will. The default install installed all the battery management utilities, monitors, etc... for me.
Only problem is, I have a desktop :) |

| Vista loaded the battery mgmt. software with a UPS installed. It was great having the software built in to manage the UPS. Few 3rd party UPS's have any decent software. |

| Well then... Windows 7 is mighty special indeed - it can sense battery back up units through the air. Them be some powerful code gods at MS. |

What's funny is, this is a dual-boot machine with two copies of Win7 Ultimate on it.
Each goes to it's own Velociraptor drive. Both installs done the same day. The first one installed all the battery management stuff, the second one did not. |

| I'm running 7 on a Dell Precision m4400. With Vista, I got about 4 hours on my extended battery. On 7, I'm getting a little bit more than 5. |
