They are going to have to make their offering really good and cheap to beat Postini.
While it was a sad day when Google bought Postini, and since, Google does influence when to send a person SPAM and when not to, Postini's services are great and relaying traffic through them is a great way to keep crap off one's servers and out of user inboxes.
If Google continues to degrade Postini, we'll consider a move to MS, but I suspect MS would eventually allow items to seep through where it was beneficial to them financially. Cynical, I know... but whereas Postini was selling a service that was just about perfect and designed to keep ALL undesired traffic out, Google and MS have an interest in seeing 'some' traffic go through. I do not think that they'll reconcile such conflicts of interest on their own.
For example, very soon after Google bought Postini, the "Delete All" button in one's personal security center was removed - forcing users to page through filtered items. Which by the way, NEVER contained any desired items (Postini was that good). It took months of complaining before delete all was added back and since, a few messages do make it through - though they had been blocked previously. It seemed (unscientific), that Google was allowing it. Point is, prior to Google, Postini was all but perfect - after Google, Positini is just good. I don't like or dislike Google, we just define what evil is differently.
