Microsoft's own speed tests show IE beating Chrome, Firefox | |

Just before announcing that Internet Explorer 8 has been finalized, Microsoft has released a new report titled "Measuring Browser Performance: Understanding issues in benchmarking and performance analysis." The document explains the various browser and network components and how each piece can impact performance when benchmarking, capabilities and limitations of various benchmarking tools, as well as ways to design tests to avoid these issues. What makes this report extremely dubious is the chart that is buried at the bottom. It shows IE8 outperforming Firefox 3.05 and Chrome 1.0, something that no other test on the Internet has ever shown before. | ||

I have about 6 collections of tabs I load pretty much every day. Most have around 20 tabs.
IE8 loads them slightly faster than the newest Firefox. I also tested CHrome and found IE8 just as fast. I know there are lot of benchmarks showing test sites with hundreds of lines of javascript running much quicker in Opera/Chrome/Firefox than IE8. But it appears such test sites are not a real-world example of whats out there. |

| MS would have done better to compare IE8b to FF 3.1b & Chrome 2.0b because they're comparing their unreleased new browser to last year's browsers from their competitors. Plus, they didn't account for the 2-second delay IE takes to create a new tab ("Connecting..."). Then there's that whole IE issue about whether the page actually renders properly. |

Speedwise, all browsers look slow compared to latest Safari..
Honestly, IE8 is huge improvement when compared to previous versions: it is faster and it does pass Acid test finally. I don't think users (or developers) will complain (much) about it, quite the opposite. |
