Microsoft has apparently seen the light, and is readying versions of Office applications that will be available for free on the Web.

| OpenOffice already does most of what people need an office app suite for. If MS makes a free web-based Office, you just know it's not going to be anywhere near what the non-web Office is. They'll have to compete with the Google offerings and OpenOffice. My opinion is that MS isn't really serious with this and they'll hack up something but it won't be around a year or two from now. |

| If the online Office apps properly handle ALL custom macros and formulas currently in use for Word and Excel by business, which OpenOffice or Google Docs cannot now do (I use all 3), then MS will succeed. |

| #3: That's not going to happen. They must differentiate between the free, online, "value" edition and the pay version. Advanced functionality won't be included. Remember, they want to compete with Google and not themselves. Cannibalizing their existing Office cash cow is out of the question. |
