The mobile Internet has been slow to get off the ground, according to new research, but software makers are becoming ever more fanatic behind the scenes to gain support in an industry they view ready to take off. Just last week, Microsoft's Juha Christensen invited the 20 biggest software developers allied to arch rival Symbian to breakfast in an effort to win them over, much to the chagrin of Symbian executives when they found out. | ||

| Why do you fault Microsoft for wanting part of the business? MS has experience in embedded systems, hardware development, and software development. The Smartphone is not even available yet, but you automatically discount it's possible impact because it is developed by Microsoft. Earlier (in Symbian calls troops to battle Microsoft), you basically said that buggy Java phones were ok, but a buggy Smartphone is an automatic failure even though the only thing you could be judging, as far as the Smartphone goes, is a beta product. Some logic there. It seems you are showing blind faith in everything not Microsoft, or, at least, everything Symbian . |

People have stomached bugs in current cell phones. Check Google and you will find people with usability problems, OS glitches, poor construction issues, etc. The P800 may even have issues that arise once released.
For most phone buyers, the look of the phone will be their main purchasing factor anyway. |

Why, oh please explain to me why, are people still using the PalmOS? What in Gods name posses someone to want inferior outdated technology?
But then, I guess Linux is such a craze too. Perhaps I'll never understand. |

Hmm, every company I know touts their product as the best there ever is, It is call competition. We will see what happens with web services, (read the xml-dev list sometime and some wonder if web services are actually part of the web) and interoperbility. Sybian is calling a battle, good. Someone needs to do that at the Desktop level. Here is two things I want to see out of the court case against MS right now. One that they fully document the API. for parts of the API that are OS exclusive and tandom to change in every version it should be clearly stated. Two, When signing contracts there should be level of contracts. if I as an OEM wish to be an exclusive MS vendor, I as an OEM should be able to sign a exclusivity contract at a better deal. If I as an OEM don't want to be a MS only house, I as an OEM should be able to sign a contract with MS, without penalty for boxes that don't ship with an OS or an competitors OS. but I as an OEM won't be expecting the Same deal as a exclusive house would have. Thats the nature of business. Intel Ford, about any business that offers a product or a service does the same thing. Grocery stores for instance will place a good in a better display area, given incentive. El. |
